Webb6 jan. 2024 · The Beatles Story were saddened to hear of the passing of Gerry Marsden, who died aged 78 in early January 2024. He was the lead singer of Gerry and the Pacemakers, a band which hailed from the same Merseybeat era as The Beatles, and the two Liverpool bands shared both a rivalry and a friendship. This version of the band didn’t stay together long, however, and Blakley quickly switched to guitar (which Poole relinquished) after Dave Munden joined on the drums.

WebbGerry Marsden formed the group in the late 1950s with his brother, Fred, Les Chadwick and Arthur McMahon. They rivalled the Beatles early in their career, playing in the same areas of Hamburg, Germany and Liverpool, England. Mac (Arthur was called Mac as he didn't fancy the name Arthur) was replaced on piano by Les Maguire around 1961. WebbGerry and the Pacemakers were a British beat music group prominent during the 1960s. In common with the Beatles, they came from Liverpool, were managed by Brian Epstein and recorded by George Martin. [1] They are most remembered for being the first act to reach number one in the UK Singles Chart with their first three single releases. [2]
